2022 Carmenère
Columbia Valley
76% Carmenère, Heart of the Hill Vineyard, Red Mountain
24% Carmenère, Weinbau Vineyard, Wahluke Slope
Carmenère, a grape often compared to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is originally from the Bordeaux region of France. It is now mainly grown in Chile, but a tiny sliver of Carmenère is also grown in Washington State. Our 100% Carmenère wine comes from Heart of the Hill Vineyard (Kiona) on Red Mountain and Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope and is made from Sustainable WA-certified grapes.
This wine has been aged in a mix of American and neutral oak barrels, imparting subtle notes of vanilla and coconut. You’ll find herbaceous green peppercorn, raspberry sauce, and sour cherry on the nose, complemented by a hint of chocolate and a touch of minerality.
Enjoy rich dark red and blackberry flavors on the palate with medium tannins and lively acidity—tobacco, plum, and tart raspberry notes offer a complex yet approachable experience.
This Carmenère is versatile with food. Try it with hearty dishes like Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce, Beef Brisket, Lamb Stew, or Chicken Mole. It also pairs wonderfully with cheeses like Goat Cheese and Pepper Jack and spices like green peppercorn and cumin.
Drink now or let it age 5-7 years.

Harvest & Winemaking
The 2022 growing season started very cool, but the heat ramped up towards the end, allowing long hang times and perfect ripening. Most of this 2022 Carmenere was sourced from Heart of the Hill Vineyard on Red Mountain, known for growing full-bodied and dense wines. After picking, the fruit was destemmed into small open-top fermenters, with fermentations lasting between 5 and 7 days. The wine was aged in a combination of new American oak and neutral oak barrels for 18 months before being racked and bottled in August 2024.
